This is interesting and something I've considered before. Fear drives funding and furthers agendas.
I do know the boogie man sometimes hides under my bed at night. Because of it, I have invested in stronger windows and additional locks. I keep all doors and windows locked and sleep with a night light. I have installed motion sensors in the hallway outside and have asked the police to please cruise through my neighborhood several times each night. When someone comes to my door, I always ask for three forms of ID -- at least one with a photo.
Additionally, it has dawned on me that beheadings in a desert setting can be rigged.
